Plant Owners are required to obtain relief requests or alternatives when the requirements of 10CFR50.55a, the Codes and Standards Rule will not be met. The rules of ASME Sections III and XI as well as NRC approved Code Cases are included in 10CFR50.55a.
Plant Owners are required to request approval from the NRC if they desire to use ASME Nuclear Code Cases that have not been endorsed to date by the NRC. If a Plant Owner cannot meet its Plant Technical Specifications, the Owner is required to propose a change to the NRC for approval or follow the applicable Action Statements. Plant Owners are required to request Exemptions from existing NRC rules if the Owner finds they cannot be met.
