Materials/Metallurgical/Corrosion Evaluations

Materials engineering services are provided by SI to evaluate and disposition structural components that have suffered degradation as a result of fabrication or service-induced defects. The services provided include root cause failure analysis, welding engineering support, materials selection, corrosion and stress corrosion evaluation, corrosion fatigue and creep of components. Metallurgical evaluations are provided either at the SI metallurgical laboratories or at outside laboratories when specific conditions require specialized evaluations.

Among the special technologies that distinguish SI are specific expertise in low temperature corrosion phenomena, as related to microbiological corrosion, electrochemistry as related to high temperature and low temperature corrosion phenomena, and specialized technology related to repair of components. These disciplines are utilized in assisting clients select materials and fabrication processes that ensure the optimum remedy for degraded components.

SI is an industry leader in solving problems related stress corrosion cracking issues and service water issues, including microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC). SI has provided many innovative solutions to address service water issues. Our patented BIoGEORGE™ technology is just one example.
