Welding Engineering

SI’s engineering staff has extensive experience evaluating the suitability of weldments from design, process and a qualification perspectives. Staff members are representatives on the ASME BP&V Code, Section XI, Task Group on Temperbead Welding, Working Group on Welding and Special Repair Processes and the Subgroup on Repair/ Replacement Activities. Staff members are familiar with applications involving the AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code, API 1104-the pipeline welding standard, ASME B31.1, Section IX, and military and aerospace welding requirements. SI has pioneered development and application of weld overlay, temperbead welding and heat sink welding to facilitate repairs in operating nuclear power plants. In addition, staff experience includes management of the EPRI Repair and Replacement Center, various projects for utility, EPRI and government organizations addressing problems in operating power generation plants as well as welding and coatings projects in the aerospace industry.
