pc-CRACK™
Fracture Mechanics Software for Windows
pc-CRACK 3.1 Released.
pc-CRACK expands the capability of your engineering staff by providing an easy-to-use tool that allows users to rapidly perform highly sophisticated fracture mechanics analyses, with immediate graphics display of the results.
With pc-CRACK, you can more easily formulate decisions (and generate support documentation) regarding the effects of structural flaws in a wide variety of materials and components.
Fracture mechanics is a methodology for evaluating the integrity of structures and components containing cracks or crack-like defects, and determining whether they are capable of continued safe operation. The basic concept employed in fracture mechanics is the relationship between the geometry of the cracked structure, applied loading conditions and the material's resistance to crack growth and fracture. If the material's resistance to fracture in the presence of a sharp crack is less than crack driving forces imposed by the loading and geometry, structural failure will occur.
pc-CRACK was developed by a team of fracture mechanics experts at SI, a consulting firm specializing in the prevention and control of structural failures. The program has been tested and proven by a number of respected organizations in the field, and currently is available for personal computers running Windows 3.1, Windows 95 and Window NT.
Common applications include pressure vessel and piping, steam and gas turbines, civil structures and aerospace engines and structures. SI is an engineering consulting firm comprised of highly qualified professionals, many with extensive expertise in the area of fracture mechanics. Nuclear Version
The nuclear version of pc-CRACK for Windows contains the following integrated software modules. Version 3.1 added the Creep Fracture Mechanics module.
The nuclear version is distributed as controlled copies, and software verification and validation has been performed in accordance with ASME NQA-1 and NQA-2, Part 2.7. (See below for more details.)
Non-Nuclear Version
The non-nuclear version of pc-CRACK for Windows contains the following integrated software modules. Version 3.1 added the Creep Fracture Mechanics module:
LEFM Version
The LEFM version of pc-CRACK for Windows contains the following software module:
Verification and Validation
Extensive effort has gone into verification of the various options and calculation algorithms in pc-CRACK. The nuclear version includes a separate Verification Manual and a diskette with verification problems which have been run in pc-CRACK for Windows, checked against hand calculations, and published results. Structural Integrity conducts an on-going verification and support program for the current release of all nuclear versions, including audit support and error notification.
