Much of the equipment in power plants are subject to creep and fatigue damage, that ultimately results in cracking and failure. The result is down time and potential injury. This equipment is typically difficult and expensive to inspect. Additionally, with creep damage in Creep Strength Enhanced Ferritic (CSEF) steels (grade 91 or 92), the material is close to end-of-life leading to immediate replacement/repair. Detecting life-limiting events and damage while predicting useful life in real-time overcomes these challenges.
