Associate, Materials & Chemistry
Wendy joined SI in January 2002 with Tony Studer and David Migues, two other long-time SI employees, to help start SI’s materials laboratory and Austin, Texas office. She has seen the lab grow from three people working out of Tony’s garage to six engineers, four technicians, and two administrative staff working at a facility with state of the art equipment. Wendy managed the lab for ten years (I am not sure of the exact number here) and recently transitioned that role to Ben Ruchte. Wendy’s primary role at SI is working in the materials lab where she conducts both laboratory and on-site failure and metallurgical analyses on a variety of components, primarily from fossil utilities but also from diverse facilities including chemical, petrochemical, refinery, pulp and paper, heavy manufacturing, food, cement, specialty chemical, and manufacturing plants. She has also worked on many of SI’s field projects, doing things from hardness testing and replication to managing projects. Wendy has been involved in SI’s creep strength enhanced ferritic steels (CSEF) and Grade 91 projects, including our various collaborations with EPRI. She finds one of the best things about working at SI to be the opportunity to work with amazing people across a diverse set of technical backgrounds and areas of interest.
While not at work, Wendy enjoys volunteering at the Austin Humane Society, cooking, and traveling. She shares her home with her husband and their five cats.
